Overview

Features of the School
Summer School for Global Leadership (The Summer School) is a 10-DAY intensive summer education programme on the theme of “Smart City”. The rapid global development of technology is digitalizing our living including energy, water, waste, transportation, social and economic inclusion, governance, citizen participation. The Summer School empowers students to rethink our city, to take into account the voices of different stakeholders, and to become leaders who can build solutions to global problems with empathy and passion.

The Summer School aims to create a culturally diverse learning environment for the participants and therefore to present them the best learning experience. Last year, we have students from 13 countries/regions. It offers a unique curriculum combining “Exclusive Visits” to corporates, start-ups and the community, and “Interactive Workshops” that address a range of global issues. This year, Global Guest Trainers from Canada, Kenya, Taiwan, the US and various regions or countries will be invited to share with participants their stories to change the world.

Eligibility
  • S.3 – S.6 (Grade 9 - Grade 12) student leaders, or equivalent, in the 2017/18 academic year
  • Demonstrate leadership potential
  • Demonstrate a sense of commitment to society
  • Competent in English

*Programme Fee includes course material, training fee and accommodation (optional). Participants shall bear all other costs including but not limited to transportation to Hong Kong, local transportation in Hong Kong, meal expenses, insurance, passport and visa costs, and any other incidental expenses during the period of the School.

Grants and Scholarships
 

Grants

Grants (available to Hong Kong residents studying in local secondary schools only) are provided for outstanding applicants in financial need.

Grant applicants MUST provide:

  • A reference letter written by a nominator, who must be a teacher of his/her current school
  • The application result of School Textbook Assistance Scheme, or a copy of the Certificate of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance

Successful grant applicants may receive a Full Grant (full waiver of ALL course fee) or a Partial Grant (half waiver of ALL course fee) where appropriate.
 

Scholarships

Scholarships are provided for outstanding local and non-local applicants with excellent track record in social innovation/advocacy as well as leadership abilities and positions held in extra-curricular activities.

Scholarship applicants MUST provide:

  • A reference letter written by a nominator, who must be a teacher of his/her current school
  • All evidence or proof of the applicant's track record as stated above

Successful scholarship applicants will receive full waiver or half waiver of ALL course fee.
Certificates
Certificate of Completion: Upon completion of the whole course, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion
Certificate of Merit: Winning team of the Capstone Project will be awarded a Certificate of Merit


Visa Requirement
Non-residents of Hong Kong who are successfully admitted to the School will need to arrange their own travel document for entry into Hong Kong. You may not need a visa or entry permit for visit, depending on your nationality / type of travel document you hold. A student visa will NOT be required if you hold a visa-free travel document / a valid visa for visit.
